I found your link through Twitter - @Hokitika_nz tweeted the link.

There's some info here:
http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/west-coast-places/12/4 or here:
http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-Cyc05Cycl-t1-body1-d3-d14.html and on wikipedia here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaview_Asylum

The NZ book Misery Hill is based around Seaview.

It was quite a scary place at times - the local council is currently erecting a monument to all those there who died and were unknowingly shipped to Dunedin Hospital for scientific research on the butter train. I've spoken to ex groundskeepers who used to find buried treasures there because the people there didn't trust anyone. There is a lot of information about Seaview at Shantytown in Greymouth if you ever get another chance to come here.

Wow! That's brilliant. The place definitely had a strange vibe about it. I knew there must have been more of a story behind the place. Do you know if there are any online links to articles about the place? Thanks for reading the blog. Do you mind me asking how you found it?

Oh spooky! I live in Hoki and that place was the old mental asylum called Seaview. Closed down a few years ago and now is just an accommodation place. but yes - spooky as! I used to be a journalist in Hokitika and know a lot of awful stories from up there.

Hi Gerard,
The jet boating is a lot of fun. There is a company in queenstown that jetboats up a gorge which I would recommend over the jetboat on the lake in queenstown. It's much more thrilling. The Nevis bungy looks terrifying, but I think I will graduate to it if I ever return. The bungy I done was the freestyle bungy, meaning that its attached to your chest. This gives you the option of running and jumping off the ledge. New Zealand is big into discount coupons and vouchers meaning you can usually bag buy one get one free offers and packages. We rented a car with Jucy rentals and picked up a tonne of brochures with discount stickers attached in their office. Even if you aren't renting a vehicle I suggest you call into one of their offices and pick up a few of the brochures. Many hostels also have coupon books for free too.

I just stumbled upon your blog yesterday and I've subscribed to your rss feed. Great blog so far. I look forward to following as you guys kick off your adventure. Feel free to drop me an email or tweet if you have any queries. Part of the fun is the unknown though.

That photo of you bungy jumping is pretty spectacular. Q & I are headed to NZ for a month in January and I plan on bungy jumping in Nevis Arc. How was jetboating? I would love to do river boarding too, but I'm a horrible swimmer.

Glad to know someone is still reading them. I need to update more often. It's been ages since my last blog. How are you guys doing back in the UK? Any plans to revisit Australia?
