Packing fun

Here I am sitting in Suk 11 Hostel in the middle of Bangkok’s Sukhumvit disctrict.  I have plenty of stories to tell and I’m only a week into the adventure but I thought I would bring the blog up to date first.

First Cut
Everything that I wanted to pack.

The weeks and days flew by in the run up to the start of the trip and there was one thing that I was not looking forward to at all.  That was the packing.  How do you pack for a round the world trip?  Well…it wasnt easy.

To begin with I laid out everything that I wanted to take on the bed and begin the the task of rolling and packing into the backpack.  It quickly became apparent that I was going to have to be roofless with what I did and didn’t pack.  I would have to cut the load by half if I wanted to get the backpack closed.  I had also forgot to pack the copious amounts of malaria tables.

Cody was bored with the business of packing.

First went the bulky items, beach towel, hoodies, jeans etc, followed by the teeshirts.  It took 4 attempts to get everything in but several stressful hours later the bag had been packed.  The morning of my departure I took cold feet and packed it for a 5th time to trim down some excess clothing that I wouldn’t need.

The final result was a reasonably light, slightly bulging backpack.  All there was left to do was say the final goodbyes and head to the airport.

I’ll update soon on the events of the past week.  The Bangkok heat (and a stinking hangover) is making it difficult to concentrate.

As a female, I couldn’t possibly imagine what I would put in my bag for a year…I wonder how Donna dealt with it…
